Thermography is considered a somewhat controversial test. The function and purpose of the test was explained to me this way:
Once upon a time the FDA wanted to determine the best diagnostic detecting for breast cancer. Ultra sound, mammography, thermography, and other diagnostic measures were in the running. Mammography won the contest because it appeared, within the time frame allotted by the study, that it was the superior devise for detecting breast cancer. HOWEVER, as data came in after the study, thermography was determined to be able to find breast cancer earlier-especially the inflammatory type of breast cancer which is particularly aggressive and targets young women.
Thermography offers an entirely different perspective on breast cancer detection. This is due to its focus on blood flow. Thermography can detect inflammation and circulatory changes consistent with cancer development, sports injuries, autoimmune issues, and more.

We are proud to offer thermography to our patients by hosting an experienced thermographer, Debbie Martini, to deliver thermography tests and expand our compass of laboratory testing. Debbie will be available for thermograms on Wednesday, January 14, 2018. To book an appointment, or make a reservation on the waiting list, email us or call our office. We would love to hear from you!
Since the publication of the first research trials demonstrating dramatically higher pregnancy rates when acupuncture is combined with in-vitro fertilization (IVF) more than a decade ago, the demand for highly trained Oriental medicine practitioners knowledgable in the field of reproductive medicine has drastically escalated. Unfortunately, the demand for fertility specialists has outpaced available training in this specialty.
One consequence of this is that there are several licensed acupuncturists who boast a “Reproductive Medicine” or “Fertility” specialty with very little formal education in this field. Perhaps they attended a seminar or two… It makes me sad because I think it is misleading to the public to claim a specialty without the solid education to back it up. Additionally, on the whole, fertility patients are very vulnerable group. Over and over again I’ve seen them choose practitioners who claim a specialty in this area-usually-but not always based on price point of treatments only to waist time and money. Then a year or two later, they end up at my door. This is why I teach Reproductive Medicine in Five Branches University’s Doctoral Program. And we need YOU! Read more

Since graduating from Five Branches University over 10 years ago, Dr. Rozenn has taught in several clinical and academic settings. In fact, her teaching career began before she graduated, when her classmate hired her to tutor him for the California state board exam. Her upcoming didactic/clinical class is a part of the “Women’s Health” specialization component of Five Branches University’s Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) program. The Western Artificial Reproductive Techniques (ART) aspect of the class will be taught by a Reproductive Endocrinologist, while Dr. Rozenn will teach students:
- How to enhancee fertility through normalizing the menstrual cycle
- How to teach patients the Fertility Awareness Method and incorporate that information into their treatment plan
- How to treat obstacles to fertility/pregnancy such as Endometriosis, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Unexplained Infertility, Recurrent Miscarriage, Fibroid/Cysts, Male Infertility Patterns and more
- Fertility promoting acupuncture treatments, herbal formulas, nutritional supplements and dietary guidelines backed by empirical and experimental data
- The latest Integrative Medicine Fertility Research
- How to help patients make ART more successful, including: hormone therapy, IVF, IUI and surgery recovery
The class will satisfy California state and The American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine continuing education requirements.
As part of the class, Dr. Rozenn will have the opportunity to treat patients on Sunday, May 11th and Monday, May 12th, from 2-6pm FOR FREE! Volunteers will have a class of licensed acupuncturists observing their treatment and as compensation, they will receive treatment for free. This is a $175.00-$100.00 value.
March 1 2009, Five Branches University held its first graduation ceremony conferring the degree Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, upon 36 graduates. Keynote speaker, Marilyn Allen, M. Sc., Editor of Acupuncture Today, announced that this first graduating class has become Traditional Chinese Medicine’s “Ancestors” in the West. While Five Branches University has offered a Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine for 25 years, co-founders Ron Zaidman and Joanna Zhao recognized a need to offer a higher degree.
According to a new government survey, 38 percent of adults and 12 percent of children use Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). The survey results released in December 2008, in a National Health Statistics Report by the National Center for Health Statistics, NCHS a of the CDC, are based on data from more than 23,300 interviews with American adults. I am excited to announce that next weekend, 2/21-2/22, I will be teaching Masters students at Five Branches University in Santa Cruz a holistic approach to treating hepatitis C.
Topics include acupuncture treatment protocols, nutritional supplementation, herbal therapy and dietary regimens specific to hepatitis C. Common hepatitis C symptoms such as joint pain, digestive issues and fatigue will be addressed. Additionally, we will discuss illnesses related to hepatitis C such as fatty liver and diabetes. Last but not least, we will cover Western drug therapy and how to help patients though it by reducing the potentially overwhelming side effect of those drugs.
I am looking forward to being on the talk radio show The Balancing Point, hosted by my esteemed colleague John Nieters, LAC, DAOM/PhD (c). We will be talking about boosting fertility with Chinese medicine, the research I am doing with the Fertility Physicians of Northern California on acupuncture and IVF, and our upcoming study on acupuncture and unexplained infertility. Please feel free to call in with your questions! Looking forward to hearing from you.
