Facial Rejuvenation

Facial Rejuvenation

The aging process

The Chinese outlined the process of aging thousands of years ago in one of the oldest medical texts, the Su Wen. According to this resource, women have aging milestones at 35, 42 and 49, while men’s key turning points are 40, 48 and 56. Both sexes experience changes in the reproductive, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems as a consequence of aging. While internal organs change with age, people are more apt to notice changes in their SKIN. Wrinkles, reduced elasticity, dullness and dark circles are all external signs of aging.

Facial Rejuvenation

Beautiful skin is a reflection of balance and harmony on the inside. This is the Oriental medicine perspective. You can go through cosmetic procedures to alter your appearance such as surgery, injecting toxins or other substances in your face, sanding off layers of facial skin, or burning them off with a laser or dramatically peeling them with acid, but why? Why go through that if your skin can look its best because you are healthy? Acne, psoriasis, aging skin are all conditions can improve with: dietary changes, herbal prescriptions, nutritional supplements, body and facial acupuncture and physician grade topicals.

How?

Through a series of Facial Rejuvenation treatments.

What are Facial Rejuvenation treatments, how are they different than regular acupuncture treatments?

Facial Rejuvenation treatments include facial moxabustion if necessary, a pearl powder mask, both body and facial acupuncture points and a topical treatment derived from high quality herbs specific to the patient’s skin issue. These sessions focus on the face and the patient’s specific goals. However, in Oriental Medicine, the doctor can not treat just one aspect of the body. It is impossible. All body parts-arms-liver-small intestine and face are of the same system. Therefore to treat the face, we must treat the whole person. To reach the patient’s cosmetic goals, we must address the constitution. So, Facial Rejuvenation treatments are similar to regular acupuncture treatments in that they focus on the constitution and how disease (or in this case cosmetic issues) is manifesting in that person. They are different in rethat the focus is on facial appearance. To this end, they are more time consuming than regular acupuncture treatments.

Facial Rejuvenation treatments can:

  • Tone slack muscles and relax facial tension
  • Improve blood and lymph circulation, to nourish and clear away toxins from the face
  • Decrease inflammation from acne lesions and cysts
  • Lighten deep lines and decrease surface wrinkles

Systemic conditions that are easily helped by Facial Rejuvenation Treatments are:

  • Sinus congestion
  • Hormonal skin problems like ACNE
  • Immune mediated skin issues like psoriasis
  • Frequent colds and flues
  • Depression & anxiety
  • Poor memory
  • & more!

How does Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation work?

Acupuncture improves the circulation of energy in the body, bringing blood, oxygen and nourishment to every cell, tissue, muscle and organ in the body. By increasing circulation, acupuncture can improve skin and muscle tone while enhancing and increasing elasticity of the skin.

In the office, we use physician grade serums and topical products. We use one of the most expensive needle brands on the market to ensure a quality treatment, with minimal discomfort. We will also put together for you a treatment plan consisting of topical products. The line we most commonly use is Suki. Suki products are synthetic-free, face and planet friendly with echo-friendly packaging and natural organic ingredients.

How many treatments will I need?

That depends on your goals. If you want a wonderful, relaxing face treatment, come in for one. If you want an “acupuncture face-lift” then the ideal schedule is two appointments per week for 5-6 weeks. Ask about our package discounts! If you are looking to improve a systemic condition such as hormonal cystic acne or psoriasis, the time table and treatment schedule varies. It could be two weeks, it could be six months. In cases such as these, really is no way to predict a time frame before your first treatment.

Is there any research behind Facial Acupuncture?

A 1996 article in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that in 300 cases treated with Facial Acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment. The noted benefits included: enhanced elasticity of facial muscles, fairer and more even complexion, leveling of wrinkles, and overall rejuvenation–not confined to face.
